Contractor praised for safety record

6:08pm Monday 26th November 2001

A CHANNEL Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) contractor has given £1,000 to the Ellenor Foundation after being praised for its safety record.

Hochtief Murphy was offered the cash by project managers Rail Link Engineering to give to a charity of its choice for 250,000 hours working without a serious accident.

The Dartford-based hospice, which cares for thousands of people in north Kent, was handed the cheque at a ceremony yesterday.

CTRL's safety awards are given to contractors which have worked from 250,000 to more than one million hours with incident.

A spokesman said: “This is the latest of many initiatives to get the safety message across to those most at risk the workforce.”
