Librabry-users in York are being consulted over plans to change the opening hours at the city's main branch.
People at York Central Library, off Museum Street, are being invited to state their ideal hours, as part of a review by City of York Council.
A report to leading councillors at the beginning of this year had called for increased opening hours at the city's libraries, but the council today said that was not possible.
Fiona Williams, head of libraries and culture, said: "Although we would like to increase the number of hours York's libraries are open, that's not possible at the moment.
"The aim of the consultation is to find out what opening hours customers would find most convenient. We won't be able to change the total length of time the libraries are open."
