Bus and car crash injuring five

TWO women were hospitalised and three other people including a child were hurt after a crash involving a double decker bus and a car outside a local school.

The accident happened just before 1pm today outside Tadcaster Grammar School in Leeds Road and involved a Yorkshire Coastliner double decker bus and a Vauxhall Corsa.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said three ambulances were sent to the scene along with an operational supervisor and an emergency care practitioner - a former paramedic or technician who has received additional training and is able to treat victims at the scene.

One woman suffered neck injuries in the accident and another sustained chest injuries and were taken to York Hospital. It is not known how serious their injuries are but both had been travelling in the car.

A further three people - two who are believed to have been on the bus and a child who was travelling in the car - were treated at the scene by the emergency care practitioner. The child was later taken to York Hospital as a passenger in the ambulance.

Tadcaster Grammar School was closed at the time due to the Easter holidays.
