Mystery injuries probe

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 57-year-old man was found with unexplained multiple injuries in York.

The man, who lives in the Clementhorpe area, was discovered in his home with serious injuries - including several broken bones, a fractured spine and a broken jaw.

He was taken to York Hospital where he remains in a "poorly, but stable" condition.

The injured man was found on April 23, when police were alerted by his neighbour who hadn't seen him for a number of days.

The man is unable to recall how he sustained his injuries and officers are appealing for information from the public to help establish how he came to suffer his injuries.

He was known to visit a number of pubs in the area, including The Victoria Vaults, The Slip Inn and The Crescent Working Mens Club.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man fall or collide with a vehicle in the Nunnery Lane, Bishopthorpe Road or Skeldergate Bridge area of York between April 10 and 23.

Police do not believe the man has been the victim of a crime, but say that until they establish exactly how he came to suffer his injuries, they are unable to rule it out. Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway, who is leading the investigation, said: "It appears this man has either had a significant fall or been in collision with a vehicle.

"I would appeal to anybody that may have seen such an incident to call the police and help us to establish the circumstances of how he came to sustain his injuries."

Anyone with information should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 247 and ask for York CID.

"Police do not believe the man has been the victim of a crime".
Is there so little crime in York that the police are now investigating non-crimes?
