OVER 42,000 racegoers filed through the ticket barriers and made the most of the summer weather at Knavesmire as the May Festival came to a successful end.

Sunny skies and soaring temperatures prevailed at the legendary annual event. Glamour was the order of the event with men and women alike dressed in their finery for the elegant occasion.

Thousands of stylishly-dressed race-goers sipped champagne and Pimms while a three-piece band - complete with tuxedo clad musicians - added some style to the festival atmosphere.

James Brennan, the racecourse's marketing manager, said: "There have been lots of smiles on people's faces and everyone seemed to enjoy seeing some brilliant horses and soaking up the atmosphere.

"It is great to see that so many people's hard work has paid off and culminated in such a fantastic few days.

"Figures were well above average, with over 17,000 people coming through the gates on the last day and 42,000 visitors in total over the May Festival."

Is this meant to be a spoof story?

An elegant and legendary event?

There was nothing elegant about the people I saw p*ssing in the street.

The Press's reports on race days are simply ludicrous - I just can't take them seriously anymore, the relationship between the press and the racecourse seems to be so close that The Press just can't maintain any objectivity. It might as well just rebrand itself as the race courses media department.

Three-day race event ends on winning note

The only winners at the races would be the Bookies.
