What about locals?
Do the people of Rawcliffe realise that after May 11 we will have virtually no bus service at all, or have they just given in to First York's proposals?
The number 23 is being taken away altogether, meaning no bus to Clifton Moor, and the number 22 doesn't start until 9.55am, then only runs once an hour until 2.30pm, being the last bus from town until it restarts again at around 7pm.
I don't know about anyone else, but this makes my working life difficult as I work in town.
I suppose I am being forced to walk to the Park&Ride (an extra ten to 15 minutes each way).
In school holidays it is sometimes hard to even catch the bus, as it is often full before it the leaves the site, therefore no room for the poor residents.
Is this how they can afford to build the new fab Park&Ride sites, by taking away the locals' buses?

There are regular buses down Shipton Road - the 29, 30, 31X and 58 are unaffected by these changes. This looks like it would only be a 5-minute walk from Ms Brown's house.

I used to use the bus but as they became so unreliable I got a car. On many occasions the bus never turned up or was late

It's about 1/3 mile from Greystoke Road to Shipton Road. Even most people in their 80s walk quicker than that. 10 minutes would be a very generous time for the walk.
There are plenty of other areas that are that far from a bus service, who don't even get a service in the middle of the day for elderly people unable to walk to the nearest main road - why should Rawcliffe be special?
If there really are that many people living in Rawcliffe who are unable to trek all the way to Shipton Road, instead of moaning about First York and the extortionate fares, why not try to persuade Stephensons or Reliance to divert some of the Easingwold buses off the main road?

You must walk
very slowly then. It's about 1/3 mile from Greystoke Road to Shipton Road. Even most people in their 80s walk quicker than that. 10 minutes would be a very generous time for the walk.

Funny ain't it? People are willing to queue for hours in buses or cars but ask them to use their pinkies for a few minutes...........
There's a fantastic cycle path from Rawcliffe to town. Why not use it?

However, apparently there was a slight error by the council in handling the possible options, ie no other bus companies were asked to tender for the route. I agree that it would have been beneficial if Stephensons, Veola or Reliance had been asked to consider taking over the route or diverting an existing service via Eastholme Drive. As they say watch this space.

The fact is that bus usage in this town is in decline -that's because less people are using them. Personally, I've advocated severely restricting car usage, which would not only speed buses but will bring more people to use them and hence save them. But, is this going to happen? I suspect not. People are really selfish and that's the root of this evil.
So, instead of just sticking your chest out in some gesture that somebody should use these under-used services, join us in the campaign to reduce the real menace, i.e. the selfish bar-stewards that clog up the roads in their single-occupancy vehicles?
