THE Imperial Ice Stars embark on their Treasure Houses next month, skating across a purpose-built tented ice palace for five days at Castle Howard, near York, from July 30 to August 3 in The Sleeping Beauty On Ice.

Dancing to the music of Tchaikovsky, the 23-strong cast of championship skaters will perform feats normally reserved for Olympic arenas on a tour that also takes them to Chatsworth, Burghley House, Blenheim Palace and Beaulieu during July and August.

Expect “world-class ice dancing, including breathtaking high speed throws, awe-inspiring aerial gymnastics, stilt skating, fire effects and the company’s performance speciality of incredible lift sequences”.

The cast of Olympic, world, European and national championship skaters includes Ilia Klimkin, from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, in the role of Catalabutte.

Against a backdrop of sets by Australian scenic designer Eamon D’Arcy, with full theatrical lighting, the company will perform in more than 100 costumes by Russian costume designer Natella Abdulaeva.

The production has been re-choreographed since its 2005 tour by artistic director Tony Mercer with 2002 world champion and Olympic silver medallist Ilia Averbukh and international medallist Maria Orlova.

The tented ice palace will have reserved cushioned seating, bespoke chandeliers and carpets throughout and it will encompass an entrance foyer, a fully licensed ice bar and the grand theatre marquee.
