MORE than a thousand residents have used Selby District Council's new one-stop shop already since its opening earlier this month.
Access Selby, in the Market Cross shopping centre, opened on May 6 as part of the local authority's commitment to make it as easy as possible for residents to access the services and information they need.
Residents are able to walk in to the new office and speak to specially trained advisors about any service run by the district council.
Information is also available about key services run by North Yorkshire County Council, such as highways and education.
The new office offers a town centre location for all inquiries and complements the authority's outreach offices in Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet.
Coun Ruth Sayner, the district council's access to services champion, said: "We're really pleased that the new Access Selby office has been so well received - on average about 150 people each day are using the new service.
"It's a really convenient way for residents to be able to get what they need, for example make payments, find out about planning applications, speak to us about housing, recycling or bus passes."
As part of the new arrangement, the Civic Centre office, in Portholme Road, has been closed to public inquiries. These offices are soon to be relocated to the new joint Selby Hospital and Civic Centre development planned for Doncaster Road.
Gill Cashmore, of the Selby Association of Voluntary Services (AVS), said Access Selby will smooth the path to important information for people living in the area.
"This will benefit the whole community," she said.
