YORK Acorn ARLC are set to run a charity nine-a-side tag rugby league competition in honour of former player Lee McTigue.
The Lee McTigue Memorial Tag Tournament is to take place on Sunday, June 1 at Thanet Road, with the winners receiving a memorial trophy sponsored by Tony Sissons of The Three Cranes pub.
If successful, the tournament could become an annual event.
McTigue was a prop forward with Acorn, and a former York City Knights and New Earswick All Blacks ARLC player, who died towards the end of last year, aged 29, through a rare form of cancer.
Entry on the day will be free, with several fundraising activities taking place, such as raffles, on behalf of the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, known as XIII Heroes.
All teams would need to be registered by noon on the day, though it would be helpful if they registered earlier by contacting co-organisers Paul Lumby, on 07851 650128, or Billy Blackburn, at the club, on 01904 330351.
Matches are expected to kick off at 12.30pm.
