FLAG and Whistle signalled the end of the York F1 Racing-Premier Karting Sunday Morning Football League campaign with a nervy cup conquest.

The Flag ranks toppled Ainsty Panthers 2-1 in the Grand Central Challenge Trophy final.

Both defences dominated initially before Flag's Steve Rambridge collected a pass and chipped the goalkeeper from 25 yards.

The second half saw Panthers' James Anderson have a shot well saved by Flag 'keeper Steve Myers.

Flag doubled their lead through Chris Dyson, who beat three Ainsty defenders before slotting the ball home.

Ainsty went close with an Anderson header and then Flag had the chance to wrap up the game but were denied as former York City 'keeper Arron Reid made a great save from the dangerous Dyson.

Panthers pulled one back two minutes from time through Mark Willoughby, but the Flag rearguard - marshalled by man of the match and captain Mark Smythe - held firm for victory.
